This is the highest score that the Santa Rita’s icon wine has obtained in this American magazine, considered one of the most demanding in the industry.

Santiago, December 2017. Viña Santa Rita icon wine Casa Real received 94 points in Wine Spectator, the highest score received to date from this US magazine.

The American publication, considered one of the most demanding and prestigious magazines in the global wine industry, also named Casa Real one of six “Hot Wines,” an honour given to the most amazing wines its editors have tasted from around the world. These are wines “that have reached a high score, that may be difficult to find, but are worth seeking out.”

The publication described the 2013 Casa Real as “explosively fruity and rich-tasting, with concentrated, nicely framed flavours of blackberry, raspberry and dark plum. Shows notes of hot stone mid palate, offering a pure, minerally finish”.

Casa Real, a Wine Legend

Over the course of its 28-year history, Casa Real has earned important international awards including the title of “Wine Legend” by the British magazine Decanter, which many consider the most important wine magazine in the world.

Casa Real was the first South American wine to hold this title and as such it earned great recognition for the Chilean wine industry.

The renowned English publication chose the 1989 Casa Real as a legend and dedicated a full page to the Santa Rita icon wine, calling it “one of the best Chilean Cabernet Sauvignons.” Only the best wines in the world, such as Château Petrus 1945, Château Margaux 1983, Château Lafite-Rothschild 1982, or Spanish wines such as Vega Sicilia Unico 1941 hold this distinction. This shows the level that Santa Rita has achieved with its Casa Real from the Maipo Valley.

Sebastián Labbé was named the chief winemaker of Santa Rita’s Premium and Ultra-Premium wines in January of this year, and Teresita Ovalle is assistant winemaker.
