In its last edition, the prestigious magazine Decanter included on its cover Santa Rita’s Casa Real (Chile) and Nicolás Catena Zapata (Argentina) as the references of icon wines from South America.

September, 2017.- According to the publication, “an icon is not something that you can name by your own judgment, but a recognition which can only be given to you by customers, trade and press”. There are only a handful of South American wines that can be called an icon and Casa Real is one of them.

The magazine emphasizes, “An individual expression of terroir is the sine qua non of an icon”, which in the case of Casa Real, fully complies. The “carneros viejos” block in Alto Jahuel, in the Alto Maipo valley, from which this Cabernet Sauvignon originates, boasts an exceptional quality, with its own identity and a faithful expression of the terroir that originates it. The article also adds, “The consistent track record of Chile’s Don Melchor and Casa Real confers a genuine, home-grown legitimacy on these two stalwarts of the Chilean wine industry”.

This select list also includes among its Chilean wines Almaviva, Clos Apalta, Viñedos Chadwick, Don Melchor and Seña. Among the Argentines are Zuccardi Piedra Infinita, Achaval Ferrer Finca Altamira, Bodegas Noemía Noemía, Chacra Cincuenta y Cinco, Cobos Chañares Vineyard Malbec, and Cheval des Andes.

It should be mentioned that Santa Rita has shown steady growth in the United Kingdom market, increasing by 23% value (MAT July 2017). Moreover, Casa Real is number 1 among the top ten icon Wines exported to the UK in the last year. The United Kingdom is one of the most relevant markets for wines of all origins with a wide offer, whose trends are a reference for the rest of the world. In this sense, Santa Rita has reached important achievements in the United Kingdom, such as the title of Wine Legend awarded to Casa Real Reserva Especial 1989 by Decanter; the Ethics Prize awarded by The Drinks Business Green Awards. In addition, Santa Rita has signed exclusive alliances with Arsenal FC as its official partner, and the agreement with The National Gallery to develop a line of wines with the great works of the Museum in their labels.
