Winemaker's comments

Deep ruby red in color with complex and elegant aromas that recall fresh blackberries, blackcurrants, black pepper and jam. The texture is smooth with good volume, depth, and the nicely rounded tannins characteristic of the Alto Maipo. Good development on the palate and a long, well-integrated finish. This limited edition wine is a good example of the history of Santa Rita tied to Alto Maipo and its terroir in Alto Jahuel.

The extraction of this wine was more intense at the beginning of fermentation and more gentle toward the end with contributions of air during process to prevent reductions and help stabilize the phenols. Pump-overs were combined with délestage (rack and return) for a more even extraction of silky tannins. The temperatures start low (21ºC) and end at 25º–28ºC. Pre-fermentation maceration lasts approximately 1 week, and post-fermentation macerations last at least a week, depending on tastings. A third of the wine was aged in French oak barrels (one-third new) for an average of 12–14 weeks.
