Santiago, September 2025. Casa Real 2022, the flagship wine of Viña Santa Rita and sourced from Alto Jahuel in the Maipo Valley, was recognized as the best red wine of Chile in the Chile Wines of the Year 2025 report by Masters of Wine and British communicators Susie Barrie and Peter Richards. With 98 points, it ranked at the very top of the reds and achieved the highest score in the entire selection, shared only with a Syrah, reaffirming its place among the world’s greatest Cabernet Sauvignons.

The report highlights the classical imprint of this vintage, crafted from the historic Carneros Viejo and Población plots in Alto Jahuel, nestled against the foothills of the Andes. Here, head winemaker Sebastián Labbé, together with French consultant Éric Boissenot, works with the goal of creating a “very classic Cabernet, mixing elegance and precision, inspired by the great wines of the Medoc.” The result is a sober and timeless wine, faithful to the Alto Maipo tradition yet with a distinctive character that sets it apart on both the Chilean and international stage.

“This new Casa Real release is a thing of beauty (…) The 2022 vintage is another key element in the quality matrix – a cooler year, the coldest since 2012, giving a naturally fresher, more elegant style of wine. This, together with Labbé’s aspirations for elegance, has given a Cabernet with wonderful line and length, superb tannic finesse and a capacity to age and develop in style. (…) On the palate, it shows fresh acidity, juicy fruit, fine tannin and a long, refined finish. It’s superbly judged. And may even age better than the 1989,” the report states.

Notably, the 1989 vintage granted Casa Real one of its most emblematic accolades: in 2013, Decanter named it a Wine Legend, making it the first South American wine to receive this title and reaffirming its position among the great benchmarks of Chilean wine worldwide.
