The renowned wine editor and critic, Joaquín Hidalgo, not only highlighted what Casa Real represents today, but also Santa Rita’s legacy in the history of Chilean wine..

The 2022 vintage of Casa Real, the flagship wine of Viña Santa Rita, received 97 points from Vinous, the U.S. publication founded by renowned critic Antonio Galloni and today considered one of the most influential wine media outlets in the world. This marks the second-highest score ever awarded to a Chilean wine by Vinous, placing Casa Real firmly among the great Cabernet Sauvignons of the world. This vintage also marks the 30th release of this iconic wine, produced only in exceptional years from a meticulous selection of grapes grown in Alto Jahuel, in the heart of the Maipo Valley. Casa Real 2022 is a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, capturing the identity of its origin and the consistency of a winemaking vision developed over more than three decades.

In his review, Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous’s editor for Chile, wrote:

“Casa Real 2022 was made from grapes grown in Alto Jahuel, Maipo. It aged for 18 months in first- and second-use French oak barrels and was bottled without filtration or clarification. Garnet in hue, it opens with refined aromas of cassis, menthol and rosehip, followed by a hint of cedar. Notes of raspberry and herbs emerge with time, along with a touch of boldo. This unfolds in layers and gains precision over time. On the palate, it is enveloping, with fine-grained tannins and well-judged juiciness, where balance leans toward fresh fruit, dark undertones and a silky texture. The 2022 is long, polished and full of energy.”

Vinous also highlighted Santa Rita’s prominent role in the history of Chilean wine, noting that the winery “has played a major role in the history of the Chilean wine industry.”

This new recognition reaffirms Casa Real’s position among the world’s great wines and strengthens Viña Santa Rita’s legacy in the development of Chilean fine wine.
