Commitment to the environment is part of the Chilean wine group’s sustainability policy, focused on the reduction, reuse and recycling of its waste to reduce damage to the ecosystem.
May, 2023-. Every May 17, the International Recycling Day is celebrated to raise awareness in society about the care and protection of the environment through the incentive of the three R’s: reduce, reuse and recycle. Santa Rita is committed to the cause every day of the year to improve its waste management. Focused on optimizing resources and mitigating the impact on the ecosystem, so far in 2023 it recorded 91.3% recyclability in its production processes, so that about 194 thousand kilograms of waste were revalued or recycled between January and April.
During the same period in 2022, the Chilean winery recorded a recycling rate of 91.06% in its production processes, which implies an increase of 0.24% this year. Finally, in December it closed with 93.2%, of which 841,357 kilograms of waste were destined for reuse. Only 56,837 kilograms were sent to landfill, all of which was household waste from the dining area and bathrooms, among others.
Therefore, according to the 2022 and 2023 data, the levels of recyclability, with respect to its production processes, remain at approximately 91%. March registered the lowest levels due to the beginning of the grape harvest due to the production of a large amount of non-recyclable waste in the agricultural area.
Santa Rita has a sustainability program focused on raising awareness and taking concrete measures to achieve a harmonious coexistence between winemaking and marketing, wine tourism, environmental conservation and the welfare of future generations. That is how the Strategic Sustainability Plan was born, which promotes a “minimum waste policy”, which seeks to incorporate the circular economy in order to reduce waste production and avoid its destination to landfills. Thus, the resources used are optimized, protecting the environment.
